Sometimes we meet people in life who can just eat and eat and struggle to pick up weight, even when its unhealthy foods. They maybe have some love handles where all their fat gets stored, and that's basically it.
Then you meet someone else who says they hardly eat yet they struggle to lose the weight and maybe even keep gaining weight.
This all has to do with Metabolism.
Metabolism is controlled by your Thyroid Gland.
So, when your Thyroid is over active then it means you have a fast metabolism.
When you have an under active Thyroid it means you have a slow metabolism.
Let’s just be clear on something. Eating unhealthily, highly processed, sugary foods and drinks and not exercising is also a cause of having excess weight. So, you can’t blame everything on your Thyroid.
If you are someone who has Thyroid issues, the next points will be beneficial to you in helping balance your thyroid function.

1. The Iodine Test
Iodine is an element that's required for the thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormones. Since the body does not produce iodine on its own, it needs to come from dietary sources—and striking the right balance is key.
If your body is low it will grab and use it up quickly!
Get yourself Lugols Solution which contains:
Iodine (used by all other organs)
Iodide (used by reproductive organs)
Test a drop on your arm or stomach and then monitor it on the hour for 5 hours.
Hour 1: If the drop has lost almost all its colour within 1 hour, then your Iodine is very low. You can fix this by repeating this every day until you reach the 5 hour mark and can see you have enough.
Hour 5: If you still have a clear dark drop then you have sufficient Iodine.

2. Selenium
Have you heard that its healthy to eat 3 Brazil nuts daily?
This is because Brazil Nuts are a good source of Selenium.
Your body needs Selenium which is used in the conversion of Thyroxine which is a hormone responsible for regulating your Thyroid function.
Mercury as most of us know is not good for you and this is why.
Its not only a heavy metal, but it will use up all your Selenium.
A s long as you have mercury in your body or are consuming mercury infested foods and some products like cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, it taking away much needed and essential selenium that your Thyroid needs.
Mercury is a neurotoxin which many people today have right in their mouths as fillings.
Day by day, it is leached into your system and accumulates in your brain.
It has been linked to Alzheimer Disease, Dementia, Parkinsons, Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
Mercury is also found in fish from the ocean, especially the bigger fish like Tuna which many consume as a “healthy” protein for body sculpting and body building. It is also found in shellfish and other ocean fish.
Its best to avoid these foods and to have your mercury fillings removed.
It would be good to incorporate fresh green juices with the herbs coriander, sage, parsley and barley grass to help remove heavy metals out of your body. I will go more in depth of how to fast correctly and safely remove heavy metals in another article to come.
In summary, Mercury found in:
Mercury dental fillings
Ocean fish, especially bigger fish like Tuna and shellfish
Some cosmetics
Pharmaceuticals

3.High Estrogen
Estrogen and Progesterone are your two reproductive hormones.
Estrogen is your growth hormone and Progesterone your happy hormone which effects your mood.
When Estrogen is out of balance, because it is a growth hormone it gets out of control and just keeps pushing out more and more growth hormone. This is where cysts, growths, tumors start forming in your reproductive organs and breasts as cancers.
Causes of high estrogen:
1. Contraceptives, HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy)
2. Diet - Meat and Dairy Products
3. Plastics and Poisons
4. Zearalenone - Mold Waste

4.Hormone Balancing Program
There are a few options and solutions to help balance your hormones and bring your Estrogen down and allow for Progesterone back into the picture.
Its interesting the link between depression and unbalanced hormones.
Did you know that Progesterone gets released every month when your egg drops in your cycle?
This means your body only can make your happy mood hormone when you have a natural cycle. How many women are on a form of contraceptive to not get their periods at all so that they don’t fall pregnant or have to worry about the monthly cycle? Many women are unaware of this and are getting depressed and seriously ill due to unbalanced hormones, including their Thyroid getting effected.
The use of Maca is a very popular way of balancing hormones which you can add in your smoothie daily or for your convenience you can buy here from us in capsule form for easy consumption and convenience. It can take from as little as 4 weeks to balance out your hormones but you need to obviously first be mindful of a few things and turn off the tap of high Estrogen causes mentioned above and each case is different based on your history.

5.The True Remedies
I have posted before om the 8 laws of health which are the true remedies for optimal healthy living and they are:
· Pure Air

6. Overactive Thyroid

Normally this person struggles to gain weight and has a fast metabolism.
Water therapy is a very underestimated and very effective form of therapy.
You can control blood flow to specific area’s just with the use of water.
Where there is more blood there is more activity.
By icing an area, you can slow down activity in that area and thus slow down your Thyroid.
7.Under Active Thyroid
Normally this person struggles to loose weight and has a slow metabolism.
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood” and where blood is active there is more oxygen and life in that area. You can wake your Thyroid up with these simple remedies:
1. Cayenne Pepper. You can do a compress over your thyroid in the morning for about 3-4 hours every second day. This will stimulate blood to the area helping to active your gland.
2. HIIT Training is excellent for getting your blood pumping and waking up your system.
3. Hot & Cold Water Therapy.
You can do 3 min hot followed by 30 seconds cold x 3 sets in the morning.

There you have all you need to know about your Thyroid function, what it needs and how to manage your Thyroid function and your metabolism.
